2026 Taiwan Farm & Ranch Guide! Family Animal Feeding, Farm Experiences & Day Trip Accommodation

The first time touching a lamb's soft wool, the moment of squeezing out milk by hand — the expression on a child's face is a parent's most precious memory. Farms and ranches give kids more than just fun; they provide life education that textbooks can't teach.
From north to south, west to east, Taiwan has fantastic family farms and ranches. We've compiled the most popular ones — pick one and head out this weekend.

One day at the farm not enough? Pair with a nearby family hotel for an overnight stay — hotel deals at the end

Why Are Farms the Top Choice for Family Outings?
Because farms let kids get up close with animals and nature — the experience urban families lack most. The Taiwan Leisure Farming Development Association has nearly 200 member farms (Taiwan Leisure Farming Development Association, 2025). In 2025, domestic tourism trips totaled 247.61 million with spending of NT$564.3 billion, both record highs (Tourism Administration, MOTC — 2025 Survey of Travel by R.O.C. Citizens, 2026). In Agoda's 2025 travel trends survey, more than a third (34%) of travelers planned to travel with family in 2025 (Tromnimedia, 2024).
Not every child enjoys the thrill of amusement parks. Some prefer quietly spending time with animals. Farms perfectly meet this need.
3 Things Kids Learn from Feeding Animals
- Learning to be gentle with animals, developing empathy and responsibility.
- Understanding animal habits in a way more vivid than textbooks.
- Experiencing the hard work of farm life, learning to appreciate food.
We took our kid to Flying Cow Ranch to bottle-feed a calf. He was a bit scared at first because the calf's tongue licked his hand. But after two or three tries, he completely relaxed and kept asking the calf's name. After coming home, he voluntarily said "I don't want to waste milk anymore."
Farm vs Ranch Experience: What's Different?
Ranches focus on animal interaction — feeding goats, cows, horseback riding, watching sheep shows. Farms focus on plant experiences — strawberry picking, fruit harvesting, vegetable planting, farm activities.
Many farms combine both, offering multiple activities in one visit. Choose based on your child's interests: animal lovers pick ranches, hands-on enthusiasts pick farms.
Northern Taiwan: Which Farms Are Worth Visiting?
Northern farms tend to be smaller but conveniently located. Good choices for families who don't want to travel far.
Taipei & New Taipei Suburban Ranches
Yangmingshan has Qingtiangang for water buffalo watching, and the grassland scenery photographs well. But when you come across the buffalo, keep a safe distance — no feeding, no touching. Several small farms in Tamsui, New Taipei offer animal feeding experiences, suitable for half-day trips.
Taoyuan Farm Recommendations: Tourist Farms + Fruit Picking
Taoyuan's Fuxing District has multiple tourist farms with seasonal fruits rotating throughout the year. Daxi also has the Daxi Flower Sea Leisure Farm (大溪花海休閒農場), registered with the Ministry of Agriculture. Pair Taoyuan farms with Daxi Old Street for a perfect full-day itinerary.
Central Taiwan: Best Farms for Family Visits
Central Taiwan has the highest density of farms in the country. Lots of options with great quality — hard to go wrong.
Miaoli & Taichung Family Farms
Flying Cow Ranch is central Taiwan's most renowned family ranch. Bottle-feeding calves is a huge hit with kids, plus the ranch offers DIY experiences. Miaoli also has many strawberry farms — January to April strawberry season is the best time to visit.
Taichung Xinshe has multiple farms and mushroom DIY experiences near the flower festival area. For central Taiwan family farms, pairing with accommodation for a 2-day trip is more relaxed. Day trips feel too rushed, especially with kids — give yourselves more time.
Nantou Ranch Recommendations: Qingjing Farm & Surroundings
Qingjing Farm is Taiwan's most famous ranch, with iconic highland meadows. Official prices: NT$270 full, NT$210 concession, NT$130 half price (over-65s and children aged 6-12 under 150 cm), open daily 08:00-17:00. The sheep show does not run every day — only on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and school holidays (and not on Wednesdays), at 09:30 and 14:30. The horse show does run daily, at 10:45 and 15:45. Buying a full ticket on a weekday at the gate or on the official site also comes with NT$60 of store credit, valid the same day.
Note: Qingjing is at high altitude — winter temperatures can drop below 5 degrees Celsius, so bring plenty of warm clothing for kids. The mountain roads are winding too; our kids get carsick every time. We found that taking motion sickness medicine 30 minutes before departure and having plastic bags ready in the car helps a lot.
Lots of accommodation options around Qingjing with varied guesthouse styles. Suggest pairing with Hehuanshan or Little Switzerland Garden for a 2-day trip.

Southern Taiwan Farm Recommendations
Southern farms benefit from stable weather — suitable year-round. Unlike the north where it's always raining.
Chiayi & Tainan Experience Farms
Chiayi has Unicorn Leisure Farm (獨角仙休閒農場), where you can feed cows and horses. Tainan's Tsou-Ma-Lai Farm is huge, with a grazing area, a petting zoo and recreational activities such as archery.
Southern farm ticket prices follow each farm's own announcements — check the official site before you go.
Pingtung Ranch Recommendations
Pingtung Deer Park ecological garden is called "Taiwan's Little Nara." Feeding deer is incredibly therapeutic. But weekends are so crowded the deer get full and ignore visitors — weekday visits offer much better interaction. Pingtung also has multiple organic farms with fruit picking.
Eastern Taiwan Farm Recommendations
Eastern farms have more natural charm. Less commercial, more leisurely.
Yilan Family Farms
Yilan has tons of family farms. Bambi Land for deer feeding is super popular. Most Yilan farms have convenient access from the Xueshan Tunnel exit.
After Yilan Farms, Stay a Night at the Japanese Manor
Green Dance International Hotel's Japanese manor theme is incredibly photogenic — strolling through gardens in yukata is magical.
Hualien & Taitung Natural Farms
Hualien's Ruisui Ranch offers free admission with fresh milk and milk buns. Taitung's Chulu Ranch is eastern Taiwan's most famous ranch — the grass sliding experience is a kids' favorite. Hualien-Taitung farms have more natural charm, suited for families who prefer a slower pace.
After Hualien Farm Experiences, Try Glamping
Shoufeng Mizan Resort offers glamping worth considering; check the facility details with the operator first.
Is Farm Accommodation Worth It?
Staying on a farm — stargazing at night, waking to roosters crowing in the morning. This kind of experience can't be found in hotels.
Flying Cow Ranch has accommodation areas, Qingjing Farm surroundings have diverse guesthouse styles. Tsou-Ma-Lai Farm has camping areas and cabins. Central Taiwan farm accommodation should be booked early — weekends are often fully booked. Southern farm accommodation is more affordable, weekdays especially so.
The downside of farm accommodation is that facilities are typically simpler than hotels. If kids are very young, staying at a nearby family hotel may be more convenient.

Half-board packages with accommodation plus breakfast and dinner are great value.
What Farm Activities Are Available?
Animal Feeding, Cow Milking, Horseback Riding
Feeding lambs and rabbits is the most basic farm experience. Cow milking experiences require session reservations — book ahead. Horseback riding typically has instructor guidance for safety.
Fruit Picking, Vegetable Planting, Farm Work
Different seasons offer different fruits: spring strawberries, summer mangoes, autumn citrus. Some farms offer vegetable planting from seeding to harvest for hands-on learning.
Farm DIY: Fresh Milk Buns, Handmade Cheese
Ranch DIY usually involves dairy products. Farm DIY includes jam, dried fruit, plant dyeing. Costs follow each farm's announcements and typically include materials and the finished product to take home.
Ranch Day Trip Planning Suggestions
- Morning: Arrive at the ranch for guided tours and animal feeding. Take advantage of kids' peak energy.
- Noon: Lunch at the farm. Many ranches have restaurants — fresh milk hotpot and ice cream are must-tries.
- Afternoon: DIY experiences or running and jumping on meadows to burn energy.
- Evening: Leave or check in. With accommodation, stay until sunset for beautiful views.

A: Central: Flying Cow Ranch (Tongxiao, Miaoli — often miscategorised as northern Taiwan or Taichung) and Qingjing Farm (Nantou); South: Tsou-Ma-Lai Farm (Tainan); East: Chulu Ranch (Taitung). In Yilan, Bambi Land is also very popular. Each has its own character — just go to whichever is closest.
Q: How much does farm accommodation cost?
A: Prices vary by farm, room type and date — go by each farm's official site for current rates. Better deals through voucher platforms. If budget is limited, consider traveling on weekdays.
Q: Are farm experiences suitable for rainy days?
A: Some indoor activities (DIY, indoor animal feeding areas) are weather-proof, but outdoor activities are best on sunny days. Farm paths are usually dirt or grass — muddy and difficult for strollers in the rain.
