Huakaile Leisure Farm (No. 329, Section 2, Fuxing Road, Daxi District, Taoyuan) has free admission, open 09:00-19:30. Rides such as the mini train, digger and go-kart track are pay-per-use at about NT$50 each, or NT$300 for a four-ride package. Kids can feed the animals (a NT$10 feed dispenser sits outside the restaurant) and play in the sandpit — good for burning off preschooler energy. The two stops are about 15 minutes apart by car, so the route flows well. ⚠️ The splash pool has been poorly maintained recently, with algae in the channels; look at the current state before letting children in.

However, Blooming Farm isn't huge — about 1-1.5 hours covers it. Older kids might want more — consider adding Daxi Riverside Park cycling.

Route 9: Hsinchu Zoo + Nanliao Fishing Port

The renovated Hsinchu Zoo is beautiful. Admission is only NT$50 — incredible value. The park now features many up-close animal viewing spots, much more fun than before.

Nanliao Fishing Port offers cycling and kite flying — the sea breeze feels wonderful. The two spots are about 20 minutes apart — morning at the zoo, afternoon at the port, perfect pacing.

The only caveat is Hsinchu's wind. Winter wind at Nanliao is truly strong — dress kids in an extra layer. Summer, however, is very pleasant.

Transport: Driving is more convenient. Can also take the train to Hsinchu Station then bus to the zoo.

Route 10: Neiwan Old Street + Lavender Cottage

Neiwan Old Street has the Liu Xingqin Comic Museum and various Hakka snacks, full of nostalgic atmosphere. Flat rice noodles and wild ginger flower rice dumplings are must-eats.

Lavender Cottage is great for photos — the grounds include a carousel and craft experiences. The entire garden is beautifully landscaped — every shot looks good.

Best to visit in autumn-winter when the cool weather makes walking comfortable. In summer, Lavender Cottage in the mountains is fine, but Neiwan Old Street gets stuffy.
