Game Room, Children's Amenities & Room Size — The Facilities Parents Care About Most

In 2025, Taiwan hotel guests totaled 82.09 million with an average room rate of NT$2,984 (Tourism Administration, MOTC). According to Agoda's 2025 survey, 34% of travelers plan family trips. Choosing hotels with kids is completely different from solo travel. You're not thinking about "romance" — you're thinking about "is it safe for kids," "is there a place to burn energy," and "will neighbors complain about midnight crying."

Kid-Friendly Facilities: Game Room, Pool, DIY Activities

The game room is the soul of a family hotel. Ball pits, slides, building blocks — kids can burn energy in there for two hours while parents sit nearby sipping coffee and scrolling phones. This isn't laziness — it's a survival skill.

Hotels with pools are an extra bonus. Water play exhausts kids physically, and they fall asleep instantly at night — parents finally get their own time.

However, note that some hotels close certain facilities during off-season. Always check the website or call to confirm game room and pool hours before booking — don't show up to a surprise closure.

Room Types: Family Room vs Family Motel

Family rooms typically have two large beds or a king bed — just right for a family of four. If kids are older and need their own space, two connecting rooms are more comfortable.

Family motels are another option — private garage, large bathtub, themed decor, high privacy. Kids feel like they're on an adventure, parents feel like they're on vacation. The downside is motels usually lack game rooms and pools, with fewer facilities than hotels.

From our experience staying at 15+ family hotels, rooms need to be at least 10 ping (33 sqm) for comfort. Traveling with kids means lots of luggage (stroller, bottles, clothes, toys) — cramped rooms make the whole family miserable.

Meal Plans: Half-Board Is the Easiest with Kids

How exhausting is finding restaurants with kids? Parking, waiting, ordering, kids getting restless and acting up — just thinking about it is tiring. Dining at the hotel is the simplest choice.

Half-board plans include breakfast and dinner — many hotel buffets even have children's zones with fries, chicken nuggets, and juice — all the kids' favorites.

Best Family Hotels in Northern Taiwan?

Hotel Cozzi Taoyuan | Family Paradise Next to Xpark

Location is Hotel Cozzi Taoyuan's biggest advantage. Walking distance to Xpark Aquarium and Gloria Outlets — no driving around looking for parking.

The hotel has Qiaohu (Shimajiro) Dream Park (five play zones) on the ground floor and the 100-ping pirate-ship-themed Cabin Zone recreation center on the third floor — kids can have a blast without leaving the hotel. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with Xpark night views from the window — after kids fall asleep, parents can unwind on the balcony.

Downsides? Restaurant options near Taoyuan HSR Station are limited — without half-board, dinner might depend on delivery. Weekends are extremely crowded — buy Xpark tickets online in advance.

Perfect for a 2-day-1-night northern family trip, especially for families in Taipei or Taoyuan — no long drives needed.

Best Family Hotels in Central & Southern Taiwan?

Hotel Cozzi Tainan Ximen | Cartoon-Themed Rooms That Make Kids Scream

Themed rooms co-branded with Cartoon Network, decorated with wall decals from Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls, or We Bare Bears — kids are guaranteed to scream when they walk in.

Located in Tainan's Ximen shopping district — walking distance to shopping and street food. The hotel has a Cartoon Network indoor play zone, plus a 500-ping outdoor Wonder Playground on the 4th floor (mini train, electric cars, sandpit). For kids, staying here IS the attraction.

However, themed room rates are higher than standard rooms, and popular dates book up fast — reserve at least two weeks ahead.

Crowne Plaza Tainan | Indoor Heated Pool and Children's Wading Pool

IHG international brand — no worries about service quality. The official website lists an indoor heated swimming pool and a children's wading pool among its facilities; confirm opening hours with the hotel before you go.

There's also a Kids' Club playroom (ages 11 and under, with a parent present at all times). But honestly, the hotel is some distance from Tainan's popular attractions — transportation isn't great without a car.

Best Eastern Taiwan Family Hotels?

Green Dance Hotel | Yilan Japanese Manor Family Photo Spot

The Japanese manor architecture is incredibly photogenic — wearing yukata and strolling the grounds feels like being in Japan. Even better for kids — the resort offers multiple family activities: seeing alpacas and black-nosed sheep, DIY planting, yukata dress-up, and the "Capybara Lake Jumper" zipline that flies across the lake.

The spacious grounds let kids run freely and burn energy while adults leisurely walk and take photos. Tons of moms recommend this on Dcard, and after our own visit we agree — every casual photo looks like it was taken in Japan, truly the "most photogenic family hotel."

The downside is it's a bit far from central Jiaoxi — driving is needed to visit public hot spring spots. Also, most activities are outdoors, so rainy days diminish the experience.

Fullon Hotel Hualien | Best Value Family Vacation Pick

A seaside family hotel in Hualien (51 Minsheng Rd) with ocean-view rooms; it sits about 3.7 km from Dongdamen Night Market, so plan on driving or a taxi for the night market. Affordable rates but solid facilities — pool, children's game room, and gym all included.

Perfect as a Hualien travel base — visit Taroko Gorge and Farglory Ocean Park during the day, relax at the hotel at night. For a Hualien hotel, the value is exceptionally good.

The downside is the hotel decor leans traditional — not as photogenic as Green Dance. But if you care about "convenience" and "value" rather than "Instagram," Fullon is a great choice.

Shoufeng Mizan Resort Hualien | Glamping Without Pitching a Tent

Want a different family experience? Glamping tents with air conditioning and private bathrooms — no tent setup, no suffering without toilets. Kids feel like they're on a camping adventure, parents enjoy hotel-level comfort.

The resort has large lawns and a BBQ area, plus stargazing at night — especially great for two families going together.

But note: Shoufeng's location is relatively remote — driving is a must. And glamping is still tents — sound insulation isn't as good as hotels, so light-sleeping kids might be a consideration.

FAQ

Q: What's the difference between a family motel and a family hotel?

A: Family motels have private garages and large bathtubs, high privacy, rooms with themed decor — suited for privacy-focused small families. Family hotels have game rooms, pools, DIY activities, and other public facilities — suited for families wanting more activity space for kids. Booking hotels with e-vouchers saves more.

Q: What does "buy-adult-free-child" hotel package mean?

A: It means after adults purchase the accommodation package, children under 12 can stay for free with no surcharge. Some hotels even include children's breakfast. Age rules and inclusions vary by hotel — confirm before booking. Cool Price Travel partners with multiple hotels offering buy-adult-free-child packages, with even better value when combined with e-voucher discounts.

Q: What should I bring when staying at a hotel with a baby?

A: Most family hotels provide cribs and sterilizers, but confirm when booking. Items to bring yourself: baby's usual bottles and formula, enough diapers and wet wipes, regular medication, and one to two extra sets of clothes. Hotel baby amenity brands may differ from home — bring your own bath products for sensitive-skin babies.

Does Staying at Hotels with Kids Really Have to Be Expensive?

Many parents assume family hotels are always pricey. That's actually not true. What's expensive is "last-minute booking during peak season," not the hotels themselves. Buy e-vouchers in advance, choose weekday stays, and five-star family hotel prices can be comparable to regular business hotels.

The point isn't staying at the most expensive — it's staying at the best fit for your kids. Under 3 needs safety features, over 7 needs energy-burning space — each stage has different needs.
